WELCOME TO GCC/IBT CHICAGO LOCAL 458M

Chicago Local 458M is a Graphic Arts Trade Union that represents more than 2,000 men and women in the Chicago area who are employed in desktop publishing, electronic pre press, conventional pre press, graphic design, publishing, flexo, pressroom, and bindery.

Chicago Local 458M holds monthly general membership meetings on the first Wednesday or Saturday of the month.  The membership votes on decisions affecting the local.  The President, Vice President and Representatives of Chicago Local 458M are elected to their positions every three years. It is their responsibility to oversee the total operation of the Local. Together they serve with the Executive Board whom are responsible for representing the entire membership.

Chicago Local 458M Union contracts set the standard for wages within the Graphic Arts Industry in the Chicago area.

Health & Welfare

The majority of our members are covered by the Chicago Local 458M Health & welfare fund. The plan provides our members with medical, prescription, and dental coverage, Life insurance, disability insurance and retiree coverage. Pensions

Local 458M offers its members pension plans that are employer and member funded. All of our pension plans enable our members to retire with financial dignity.

Grievance

Every union contract includes the right of grievance. When you feel your contract rights have been violated, as a member of the local, you have the right to file a grievance.

Training

The Chicago Graphic Arts Institute in conjunction with Triton College offer college accredited courses for the Graphic Arts. Because of ever changing technology within the Graphic arts industry, the local strongly believes that every union member should take advantage of these educational opportunities.

Employment

The Local has Employment Officers who will assist our members who seek employment opportunities in a Union environment.
